This overall detail in the carving on this clock I have not seen on other examples over my many years of collecting Black Forest clocks | The Lion Monument in Lucerne is a giant dying lion carved out of a wall of sandstone rock above a pond at the east end of the medieval town. This is a very early cuckoo clock in which the painting is done on a tin sheet rather than the newer reverse painting on glass that is prone to peeling . The clock has a wood-plate movement with a fully articulated cuckoo bird. The cuckoo door is camouflaged which can be found up in the leaves of the tree.
